I swear there is never enough time in a day to accomplish everything that needs to be done! I remember when I was younger that an hour would feel like eternity and days lasted so long that I never had enough things to fill them up with. Now when I get up I go through my mental to do list and have just realized another day is already gone. Disappearing day's turn into disappearing months and pretty soon another year has gone by.
The sad part is that all the older experienced people I speak to about this say it only gets worse as you get older! Oh joy I think to myself. Now the pressures I have of getting my to do's and my want to's has been increased ten fold. When I look at the situation I guess I have two options. I can let the overwhelming burden of time dictate my motivation to get things done or I can relax knowing if it gets done it gets done, there's always tomorrow!

Advertising usually doesn't phase me
Advertising is everywhere I look! It seems that no matter where I go there is something being advertised to my face even if I don't want it. I am so used to the advertising that is doesn't phase me anymore. As I walk through places like the airport or the mall it's like I look right through the advertising and continue on with the purpose of why I went there. I feel kinda bad about this after watching the film because I now have seen how much time and effort people put into marketing and advertising their products. I guess if their efforts work in shaping the opinions of the majority then it is a success, but for myself it usually doesn't make a difference.

It's Not as Bad as it Looks!
This class hasn't been nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I still find that my writing is better some days as opposed to others. For this particular blog post I am writing now, I have written about ten different versions and now have become so tired I am just going with this last one. The problem that I need to get over is the fact that I never like how my writing sounds. As soon as I type something up I start getting more ideas in my head before I have enough tome to write them down in a manner that sounds good. I know with time and practice my skills should improve, and hopefully get to a level that will be suitable for the line of business work I will be doing. On that note I cant express how much I respect writers for what they do! Listening to our two guest speakers was a realization for me that it can be a stressful job but can be very rewarding just as well.

Technical Writing Post
My link to the Technical Writing Exercise
Michelle Hensler has done a wonderful job re-writing the directions. When I read the directions step by step I found them to be brief and clear. What helped make the directions straight forward for me to understand was she cut out any of the filler words that were in the original text. I also liked how she incorporated bullets and parenthesis with minor side notes. I don't find myself to be computer savey but her directions give me confidence if I was to actually have to do this.

Rhetoric At Work
Each day when I go to work I never know which aspect of rhetoric will become the overwhelming theme of the day. I work at a UPS shipping store where we send out packages for people and also where people have mailboxes. Don't let this little "one stop, business shop" fool you. It has the atmosphere of your local tavern where people can come in and vent about there day. Between my regulars and any new customers that come my way I get my fair share of ethos, pathos, and logos on a daily basis. Usually its one out weighing the others but there is generally a little bit of everything. When it comes to the ethos side of things I have to deal with making sure the customers have filled out any and all paperwork completely and accurately for their packages. A slight mistake can result in unnecessary consequences with their package. For me to not read over and double check their paperwork would not be acceptable to the customer as well as myself when I would hear about the issue later. The logos comes in when it is time for me to do any ordering of supplies for the store. It is my job to make the appropriate supply list in an organized manner so that the store owner can look over and sign off on it that it is ok to be sent to the supply company. The pathos is definitely an ongoing part of that job on a verbal scale, but when it comes to writing it isn't so obvious. I usually try to use pathos in my writing when I would like my coworker or my boss to get certain tasks done in a reasonable amount of time. I think this job gives me good experience working with rhetoric on verbal and written levels. Let's just hope that I will be able to utilize rhetoric properly when it comes time for my future career.

Worksheet Post
Worksheet for this weeks blog
Not too long ago I received an email from FAFSA reminding me to get finished with my financial aid paperwork before it was too late. The overall tone I got from this notice was positive and motivating. Statements like "Missing important upcoming deadlines could affect the amount of aid you may be eligible for," really prompted me to pay attention to the importance of the message. The message had a level of authurity but did not make me feel like I was being nagged to do something. The email went on to say "In order to enhance your chances of getting the most aid possible..." and then listed in bold three helpful options for me to utilize. The tone of this statement in particular is very positive and encouraging. In my past experience when I have received business messages that were positive and motivating they usually referred to something like signing up for a credit card or a loan.
